EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN (2004)

I started becoming obsessed with two strategies for writing songs. First, keeping the melody line as simple and ballad-like as possible became very important. Hymns were a big inspiration, as were lullabies. Secondly, I decided to start using more atmospheric noise consciously behind my music. By this point my production skills were becoming better and I liked the idea of working with sounds like feedback and such. The best example of these techniques can be found in 4.01, 4.07 and 4.11. I also started liking the idea of using electronic music to do “covers” of well-known pieces, and started using my voice (4.03, 4.09) to provide parts and pieces. My most successful (and shortest) album came out of this mentality.
